The new N word yet Old?

The hot topic in Washington is the N word. Allegedly, Harry Reid the Majority Leader referred to President Obama as light-skinned American American that did not sound or speck negro unless he needed to do so. This has outraged the right and now call on him to resign.

On the other hand, Trent Lot, former Majority Leader resigned after remarks he made praising Storm Timon's 1948 run for president as a segregationist.

The real problem is the N word is still a problem. Some people taught that this would be3 all over once President Obama was elected. This is not true. The N word is now negro. The point is that he can speak Negro. This is new. Is it like Ebonics or is it different?

We need to get past this and fast. There are too many people out of work. People are losing their homes. We are fighting a war. Does the N word have anything to do with our real problems? Does Canada have such issues?

We need a better school system to flush these type of issues out in the classroom and not the world stage. I bet some one is having the laugh of a life-time looking at The USA. What should we do? No More N Words or What?

I agree with you. There are far more important things to focus on, besides this. People are struggling and need jobs and so many other things. Even Pres. Obama said he was not offended by the remarks. Harry Reid's remarks doesn't offend me either.

I appreciate your view!

I called a bunch of people I was annoyed at "negros".

So does that justify my wrongful ire simply because there are far more important issues to be worried about. No!

Whether anyone is getting offended is not the issue here. Neither am I. But, somethings in life are uncalled for. Especially from a person of stature, wisdom and those on whom we rely on being lawful, ethical, civil, more than any average person on the street.

Nice...and these people are who we elect into office.

There are too many people without jobs. One report indicates that the real jobless number is near 50 million. Some people have just stopped looking for work. The word Negro has nothing to do with greed.

Well everyone's got their own thing going on. But as it was said before, lets focus on more important things. He's over it, lets all do the same.

What we really need is a dicussion on the J word. Jobs.

Hi there,

I'm from the UK and I think you guys have a lot more to worry about than the "N" word, as you quite rightly say.

Outside the US, Obama is very popular, far more than George W - a man who was ridiculed and laughed at (certainly in the UK).

You have a good President there, probably the most popular President abroad for years, and the sooner certain elements get over the fact that he is black, the better. There are many more things to worry about. From a personal perspective it makes not on jot of difference.

Cheers

PM

Thank you for your UK perspective. President Obama has a lot of issues to address. The world needs leadership. We all need to become better educated on world matters. The recession will be over soon and a new day will come, but please hurry. Thank you so much for your insight.

A politician's job is to insure that nothing gets done. These absurd distractions help them do their job.

You are so correct O Profound One. We need a new age of enlightenment to restore a sense of morality. This system has produced self serving interest with no real regard for humanity. Thank you so much.

I agree that this country has many issues with which me must deal. One of those, however, is racism. It does exist. Still. If we do not address this issue head-on, it will continue to smolder. To bury our heads in the sand and pretend otherwise does a great disservice to ourselves and our nation.

America still has a long way to go in terms of race relations and human understanding. We need more education at all cost. This could prevent so many problems. Our gaol should become: We are the most intelligent nation in the universe.

The classroom is NOT the place to "flush out these issues". I have two daughters that are both high school English teachers and this type of discussion would absolutely not work in their classrooms. This issue is FAR too heated for the classroom and teachers already have enough discipline problems. Unless you want to pay them combat pay, your suggestion is WAY off base.

PS. Here's an idea.... how about PARENTS teach this issue in the home. Why is it whenever there's a "sticky" issue, it's dumped on the classroom? Parents need to do some parenting. That's the REAL issue.
If you want to dump the teaching of moral issues, then how about dumping them on your church. Leave classrooms for reading, writing and arithmetic.

Why not both the home and school? We need to learn how to look at these issues intelligently in order to move forward on real issues as well. There are many parents not clear nor informed on such matters given work schedules and other business. We need to continue to learn, care and share. Thank you for your comments.
